It’s Friday, but Sunday’s Coming
When I first heard this monologue (“It’s Friday, but Sunday’s Coming”) given by a pastor, I was blown away. I really never thought about the crucifixion that way.
For years, when I thought of this week in history, I thought only of the sadness.
I thought of my poor Savior riding into Jerusalem KNOWING He was going to die. He washes His disciples’ feet, knowing there would be those that betrayed Him. He endured the terrible burden of the whole world’s sins on His shoulders.
He was questioned then condemned to die while being mocked by those very people that “pretended” to believe in Him.
He was beaten fiercely, made to carry a heavy cross, then nailed to it to die.
He took His punishment like only a perfect Son of God could do and even forgave a man on the cross next to Him before He took His last breath.
Heaven grieved, the believers grieved and, poor Mary, grieved. Jesus was gone………….
BUT SUNDAY WAS COMING!
We often get so caught up in the horrific events of Jesus’ death that we forget the rest. Don’t get me wrong, it was horrible and I can’t even imagine what His followers endured by seeing it. But, we forget the “HAPPY ENDING” to the story.
Jesus didn’t stay in that grave. HALLELUJAH! HE AROSE!
Do you know what that means? Your sins are paid for! If you believe in Jesus and ask Him into your heart, you will die knowing that you will spend eternity in Heaven- a place we can’t even fathom because it’s so grand.
I don’t know about you, but I am so thankful Jesus endured all of that just for me. He didn’t have to do it. He could have asked God to spare Him that fate, but He didn’t. Do you know why? Because He loves you that much. Do you love anyone else that much to die for them? Maybe your kids? Your spouse? But, not a whole world of ungrateful sinners.
So, this week, pray and ruminate on the terrible events that took place before and during Jesus’ death, but don’t just stop there. Also, smile and rejoice because our Savior rose out of that grave and He is waiting for us in Heaven.
